Lake Constance (Lindau approx. 40 km)
For centuries Lake Constance has remained a favourite destination for guests in search of recuperation, nature and art lovers, sports enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike. Germany, Austria and Switzerland all border on this lake. The cities of Bregenz, Lindau, Friedrichshafen, Meersburg and the island Mainau, with its abundant vegetation, are all classic outing destinations on the so-called, "Swabian sea".
Oberammergau (approx. 80 km)
Oberammergau is a charming village, world famous for its wood carving tradition and the Passion Play, which take place once every ten years. From May 16 to October 4, 2020 the 42nd Oberammergauer Passion Play takes place.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen/Zugspitze (approx. 140 km)
With an altitude of almost 3000 m, the Zugspitze is Germany's highest mountain. Garmisch is a classic winter sport resort and home to many famous downhill skiers. A visit to King Ludwig II 's ornate Linderhof Castle is a must.
Neuschwanstein Castle, near Füssen (approx. 70 km)
King Ludwig II of Bavaria's fairy tale castle is world famous. The reclusive dreamer, "Kini" remains of interest to this day and is revered as an idol. His castles, in which a stranger was never meant to set foot, have been visited by over 50 million people since his death.

The Staufen "Fasnatziestag"
When Carnival reaches its climax, the people of Oberstaufen make ready for another festive day "Fasnatziestag". Carnival costumes are nowhere be seen on this day. The scene is one of traditional costumes and flags. This day is im remembrance of the Great Dying, when the plague took its toll in 1635.
Culture in autumn - a festival for Oberstaufen
Every autumn Oberstaufen holds a festival for all ages. The events are based on three pillars: classic, jazz and cabaret, and lend an artistic tone to the spa town.
Viehscheid - driving down the cattle
On this day the cattle, which has spent the summer on the alpine pastures, is driven back down to valley level, to be given back to its rightful owner. The herder calls out the names of the farmers to whom each head of cattle belongs. The cattle is adorned with ornate headdresses and the arrival in the valley is the start of celebration. The "Staufner Viehscheid" takes place once a year on the 2nd weekend in September. The following week Thalkirchdorf has the same celebration.
